Click for larger view The above photograph shows Ron London and Bill Mottern setting up their low power x-ray machine, the same device that was at least in part responsible for the seizing of all of STURP’s equipment by Italian customs upon its arrival in Italy back in The wooden crate that housed the x-ray machine had a radiation sticker on the outside, and that apparently raised enough concern to cause the customs officials to seize everything and refuse to release it upon our arrival. We arrived a week prior to the scheduled start of our examination while the Shroud was still on public display in order to unpack, set up and calibrate all our instruments and equipment so we would be fully prepared when the Shroud was brought to us. Unfortunately, it took five and a half days before the equipment was finally released so we had to work around the clock for the remaining 36 hours to prepare everything for our testing. We were still finishing our preparations when the Shroud was brought into the examination room, a full hour and a half ahead of schedule! In spite of the pressure and stressful circumstances, everyone pulled together, worked as a team and we got the job done! I wanted to do something special for today’s update and spent a lot of time thinking about it. Since we first went online on January 21, , we have included a Bibliography of STURP’s published papers, but were unable to publish the papers themselves due to copyright restrictions. Considering the historic importance of the work, that has always been one of my biggest frustrations, especially now on our 40th anniversary.

But for the swipe-right generation raised on dating apps like Tinder that is so last century, television executives believe. A new dating show is helping time-pressed millennials save on the unnecessary preliminaries by cutting straight to the chase. Its French producers WeMake said it has brought together “scientifically-matched singles” to ask the essential question, “Could making love make you fall in love?

Contestants can then hurry into the bathroom to debrief the audience on just how their new partner performed. Although the producers are French, the contestants for the pilot show were British. The format is one of several new series which are likely to pop up on TV screens across the globe in the next few years. Analyst Virginia Mouseler of The Wit database said the new age of dating was not for prudes.

Another show called “Find My Body” has people guess which body part goes with the right contestant, with the winner taking his or her favourite out on a first date with the prize money. The Spanish series “Forever or Never” takes a more realistic long-term view — using movie make-up to imagine what young lovers might look 20 and 30 years down the line. Parents and grandparents come along on dates so future sons- and daughters-in-law can get an educated guess of what they might be getting.

Another Spanish show “Ex-to-Be” has couples in crisis being sent on three dates with people who have all the qualities that they say their current partners lack. They then meet on the dance floor to see if it will be “love at first dance” — with contestants banned from talking or whispering sweet nothings in each other’s ears. It is one of a huge wave of dance-based shows which are about to flood the small screen, Mouseler said.

The BBC is bringing a new version of Hercule Poirot to television, with writer Sarah Phelps dropping a first hint about the screen adaptation.

This is not a word for word transcript Dan Hello and welcome to 6 Minute English. Rob And hello, I’m Rob. Dan In today’s programme we’re going to be looking at what our brains are doing when we are using dating apps. Now, Rob, have you ever used a dating app? Rob No way, I would never use one. Dan Hmm, so Rob, can you explain, when talking about dating apps, what we mean by swipe left and swipe right? These are not new words but technology has given them new meaning.

To swipe is the movement of your finger on a smartphone to change the screen you’re looking at. So imagine turning the page in a book, well, on a phone, you swipe.

The Show Show news. Since , our top secret Top Gear test track (based just off the A in Surrey) has played host to all manner of glamorous metal in the hands of The Stig, celebrities in.

But if the pair ever go there they should prepare to be mobbed after being announced as the new hosts of Top Gear. The Middle Eastern country is one of more than territories around the world where the show is broadcast, attracting a loyal fanbase attracted by a mix of banter and fast cars. Will BBC Studios be making as much money as it used to?

Probably not, but Top Gear is still doing a decent job. Top Gear mobile phone games have been downloaded more than 30m times. The change in the presenting lineup follows a damaging few years for the show, beginning in March when Clarkson was suspended for punching a producer at a hotel in the Yorkshire Dales. Top Gear was left to struggle on with an entirely new lineup, with the Radio 2 breakfast show host Chris Evans forming an awkward partnership with the former Friends star Matt Le Blanc only to leave after one series , allowing the actor take solo control.

Although the BBC does not reveal the amount of money each show earns, it helps that Top Gear is produced in-house by BBC Studios rather than an independent production company. This compares favourably with other recent BBC hits such as the political drama Bodyguard, which despite being shown on BBC One was made by an ITV-owned business that sold the rights for the rest of the world to Netflix, meaning the corporation is unlikely to see a major financial return on its enormous success.

World Series Of Dating is described as turning dating into an American-style competitive sport, “with all of the sporting conventions that go with it – overblown graphics, music and scripted comedy analysis”. An 8-part series, due to begin broadcasting next month, has been filming at Pacific Quay studios in Glasgow, and is hosted by American comedian Rob Riggle in the guise of American commentator and “legendary dater” Doyle MacManus.

The BBC describe the format, which aims to match up real life men and women as dating couples, thus: From the moment the single men walk into the zone the women can decide to buzz them out of the game for whatever reason they wish. Also appearing throughout the show are two commentators who discuss and reflect on the action as it happens with super-slow mo replays and many other sporting conventions. The comedy of embarrassment focusses on twenty-something Pete Rafe Spall , a sports writer whose lack of tact and run of bad luck lead to failure in almost every situation.

His actions are narrated by a pair of reporters Simon Greenall and Ian Kirkby as if his life were a sporting match.
